YORKTOWN, NY — A 62-year-old Yorktown man was accused of resisting arrest after police said he tried to dump a barbecue grill illegally in the woods.

The Yorktown Police Department said Mark Russo, 62, of Yorktown, was charged with resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor, dumping, a town code violation, and three traffic infractions.

Police said, around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, officers were sent to check out a report of a man in a van dumping a barbecue grill in the woods off the roadway on Mountain Brook Road.

The officers located a van matching the license plate given by the person who called in the tip and Russo was identified as the driver.

A DMV check was completed and it was found the van had improper license plates that belonged to another vehicle. Also, the van was not registered.

Officers said that the driver’s view was obstructed by objects inside that were blocking the windows.

Russo obstructed governmental administration by refusing to identify himself and to provide his driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance to the officers in order for them to cite him for the traffic violations, police said.

He also physically struggled, pulling away from the officers with his body and arms and preventing them from placing him in handcuffs.

The investigation completed at the scene found that Russo dumped a barbecue in the woods in violation of the Yorktown town code.

He was arrested and taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital for medical treatment and then to the Yorktown Police Department for arrest processing.

Russo was issued an appearance ticket and traffic tickets for the charges and released on his own recognizance to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court Aug. 17.
